SCOTLAND THE BRAVE

Stonehaven Pipe Band

EUCD2044

The Stonehaven Pipe Band performs marches, strathspey, reels, airs, jigs, and hornpipes. In addition to the Scottish repertoire, they also cover more remote Celtic regions such as Brittany, Asturias and Galicia (Spain), and Ireland.

The band has established itself as one of Scotland's leading pipe bands, cultivating its own distinctive musical style spanning the entire Celtic folk tradition.

Stonehaven, located south of Aberdeen on the northeast coast of Scotland, has a long tradition of pipe playing dating back to the 19th century. The modern band began its successful career by joining the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association and entering the world of competition.

Since then, it has continued to develop and has established itself as one of Scotland's finest pipe bands.

The average age of the players is 22; they are one of the youngest bands ever to compete at this higher level. As the band grew and developed, they developed their own distinctive musical style.

This album clearly demonstrates how their repertoire transitions seamlessly from traditional Scottish melodies through the rigorous disciplines of traditional marching, strathspeys, and reels to the innovative dance music of Brittany and Galicia.
