beskrivning
Gambists are in awe of François Couperin's 'Pièces de Viole'. They are pieces that one does not thoughtlessly include in one's repertoire. Not a gambist himself, Couperin wrote these impressive suites without being aware of the technical consequences for the performer - so that he often has to search for a long time for the best fingering and bowing for himself. [...] Despite all this, we have chosen these very pieces - because the difficulties associated with rehearsal are more than compensated for by the richness and majesty of this music. • (Mieneke van der Velden)
