The young Romanian Arcadia Quartet conquered the hearts and minds of the audience at the International String Quartet Competition at Wigmore Hall 2012. With its new CD for the label Orchid Classics, the Arcadia Quartet dedicates itself to the themes of love, lust and longing by means of Janáčeks string quartets. For the recording, which took place at the Gheorghe Dima Music Academy in Romania, where the quartet was formed in 2005, they worked closely with the Janáček expert Milan Škampa to produce a to achieve the greatest possible authenticity. The two Steich quartets originate from the composer's highly productive final stage of life, in which the Glagolitic Mass and the Cunning Little Vixen were also composed.
