The ensemble Al Kindî, which is dedicated to classical Arab chamber music, was founded in 1983 by the French guitarist Julien Jalâl Eddine Weiss was founded in the northern Syrian city of Aleppo. Weiss has travelled the Arab-Turkish region for many years, the rich and diverse musical tradition of this region and the quânûn, one of the zither comparable instrument, learned to play with virtuosity.

Sufism, whose origins go back to the eighth century, is a mystical variety of Islam and a good example of the fact that there are also more sensual currents within the world religion, which is often perceived as rigid in this country.
