René Jacobs and the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin have been working together successfully for decades. The present Telemann production dates from 1989, and in many respects this was a year of new beginnings. René Jacobs can be heard here in his ancestral profession as countertenor, and the members of the Akademie für Alte Musik accompany him in chamber instrumentation - without conductor. René Jacobs' collaboration with this Berlin orchestra, which has since led to numerous award-winning recordings, began with this Telemann CD; both have since been awarded the coveted Telemann Prize of the City of Magdeburg - the Akademie für Alte Musik in 2006, René Jacobs 2008.
