opis
Sylvia can almost be regarded as a key work of modernism, as a St. Petersburg performance in 1901 broke with the followers of tradition and renewal by dismissing Serge Diaghilev, who was entrusted with the production and had a modernist attitude - which led to the foundation of the Ballet Russesin Paris for international ballet
Sylvia also represents a departure from the ethereal image of women in romantic ballet, in which the fairy and Sylphide became the fighter, a sister of Penthesilea, as it were. Neumeier's new production is about the accentuation of a "woman who, torn between strength and vulnerability, finds it difficult to find a balance between attack and tenderness, armor and devotion, who must first experience extreme sensuality in order to discover simple, simple love". Neumeier is concerned with "dance images, movements, emotional situations that lead an almost shocking dialogue with the music", which lives from exciting contrasts and frees itself from the mythological tinsel.
