opis
It was Dimitrie Cantemir, a Moldovan nobleman, who at the beginning of the 18th century summarized the rich tradition of Ottoman music in his work "The Book of Musicology". The significance of his writing lies especially in the fact that in a notation developed especially for this purpose by himself, he wrote down many previously only orally handed down pieces and thus saved them from being forgotten. Cantemir himself spent 22 years in Istanbul before he returned to his homeland as ruler and only a short time later went to the court of Peter the Great in Russia. In his late years, Cantemir saw himself as a mediator of Ottoman culture and contributed much to the deep understanding of the Enlightenment for the Bosporus neighbors, as reflected in Mozart's abduction from the Seraglio. Jordi Savall, together with experts from the region, brings back to life this ancient heritage of a lively cultural exchange.
