The recordings presented here range from excerpts from Bach cantatas to folk songs and were made during the Second World War for the Reichsrundfunk Gesellschaft. Its Classical Music Section was presided over from 1940 to 1945 by the pianist Michael Raucheisen, who acts as accompanist on all recordings and is regarded as Elisabeth Schwarzkopf's discoverer and first mentor. As a bonus, there is an audio document from 1980 in which Elisabeth Schwarzkopf comments (in English) on the art of lieder singing
