Reger's music, in contrast to that of Mahler or Berg, leaves behind in listeners who have grasped little or nothing, the equally clear and unpleasant feeling that they have grasped nothing (Carl Dahlhaus)For many music lovers, the music of Max Reger (1873-1916) is indeed still considered difficult", and as much as his organ works have established themselves in the concert business, this can hardly be said of his other works. Yet his chamber music contains a number of masterpieces that deserve a more prominent place in our consciousness.
The Belgian chamber music formation Oxalys gives us the opportunity to discover the beauty of his chamber music. Besides two late works, the Serenade Op. 141a and the Clarinet Quintet Op. 146 from 1915, the "Plea for Reger" also contains the Serenade Op. 77a, composed in 1904.
