Although they kept making new attempts, Bach and Handel never met in real life, to their regret. In a play about an imaginary encounter between the two yearlings, Peter Shaffer brought a drunken and rumbling Handel and a provincial and quickly insulted Bach onto the stage and certainly did not do justice to the brilliant musicians. Philippe Pierlot, on the other hand, has organised a meeting between Bach and Handel, where everyone can show their best side in an instrumental work and a vocal composition.

Bach's concerto for oboe d'amore is the original version of the famous harpsichord concerto BWV 1055, and his cantata Weichet nur betrübte Schatten shows him from an atmospheric as well as artful side. Handel's Harp Concerto was composed in 1736, when he had long resided in England and was a world-famous composer. His cantata Tra le fiamme, on the other hand, takes us back to the time of the young master, who gained experience in his profession during a stay of several years in Italy and earned his first fame.
