Wagner: Götterdämmerung (3CD)
Soprano Laila Andersson-Palme reports on the 1987 Aarhus performances of Wagner's Götterdämmerung: "In Aarhus, summer performances were usually given similar to those at Glyndeborne in England. These performances ran on a regular basis, but were interrupted by two long intervals of about an hour each, so that the audience could stroll in the beautiful park and eat and drink, either in a restaurant or as a picnic. The opera house is beautifully situated on the outskirts of the city and is ideal for performances on summer evenings. It was a happy time with positive vibes. From 1983 to 1986, individual operas from the Ring of the Nibelung were performed, before the entire Ring was performed in 1987 and 1988. In the first year, I took part in Die Walküre and Siegfried, and in the second year in Götterdämmerung. The performances were classically designed under the accomplished direction of Klaus Hoffmeyer."
The special atmosphere of this Götterdämmerung under the direction of Francesco Cristofoli in Aarhus in the summer of 1987 can be heard every second of this album.
