Caterina Valente is one of the highly gifted in show business. At a young age she spoke six languages, was able to dance, was an actress, entertainer, played the guitar and above all she could sing. The performing arts have been their purpose in life since childhood. •
Valente never had any reservations about entertainment and always managed to cross the boundaries between genres with convincing ease. In the USA she was seen alongside Bing Crosby, Chet Baker, Perry Como and Danny Kaye, in Germany with Hans Rosenthal, Peter Frankenfeld and in the late 1960s even in her own television show. •
At the beginning of 1950 the head of the dance orchestra of the Südwestfunk Baden-Baden, Kurt Edelhagen, became aware of her and supported her thereupon with engagements. The early years in the vicinity of Südwestfunk and Süddeutscher Rundfunk were special. The recordings of 1954 and 1955 document a singer who was able to easily compete with the international jazz scene.
