The tradition of composer-pianist, which began with Mozart and Beethoven, had reached its peak during the latter part of the nineteenth century and the first few decades of the twentieth century.The pieces featured on this release are from the last heroes of this genre. The music recorded here is largely unknown, and some works are receiving on this release their first recording. The charming miniatures left by Mischa Levitzi (1898-1941) are mostly waltzes. Ossip Gabrilowitsch (1878-1936), the son-in-law of Mark Twain, are modest works, and the works of Ignaz Friedman (1882-1948) are both original works and transcriptions. Russian-American pianist Margarita Glebov is a faculty member of the International School of Music in Bethesda, Maryland.
