Brahms had a great fondness for the sound of the natural horn, which for him was the embodiment of romantic poetry par excellence. Although its place was gradually taken by the valve horn at the beginning of the 19th century, Brahms wrote the Trio op. 40 explicitly for the French horn. This work still occupies a special place in the repertoire for this unusual instrumentation. The three young musicians tried to reconstruct the original sound of the trio as accurately as possible.
