On CD it is one of the much-recorded operas: Donizetti's "La Favorite". Nevertheless, the opera, which Richard Wagner was so enthusiastic about that he created a piano reduction of it himself, has never before been released on DVD or Blu-ray Disc • The British quality label Opus Arte is thus once again doing pioneering work and offers an excellent first recording with this production from the Theatre du Capitole de Toulouse. • Arturo Toscanini called the opera "beautiful throughout; but the last act: every note a masterpiece" • As Donizetti's 63rd opera, "La Favorite" belongs to the composer's last creative phase. It was conceived for Paris and dramaturgically assigned to the needs of the French opera form, but is nevertheless a typical bel canto number opera with arias, duets, ensembles, but also large tableaux. Vincent Boussard staged a remarkable masterpiece and a highly acclaimed cast and a well-disposed orchestra made for a grandiose evening of opera. Unfortunately, the work is rarely performed in German-speaking countries. The Italian version of "La Favorita" is much more popular today and is also more frequently represented on sound carriers.
