"Hailing from the northern British city of Durham, John Garth's first set of six accompanied sonatas, op. 2, appeared in 1768. • Following its success, a second set, the op. 4, appeared c.1772. • Garth’s writing is quite lyrical and he makes frequent use of popular devices such as the popular ‘Alberti bass’ left-hand accompaniment. • The op. 2 keyboard sonatas demonstrate that he could not only write popular music, but that he could employ some of the latest musical techniques with a touch of flair."
