Pratella & Anzoletti: Music for Viola and Piano
Viola and piano music by two neglected figures of Italian late-Romanticism and early modernism: Francesco Balilla Pratella, composer, Futurist theorist and ethnomusicologist, represented here by his Sonata prima Op. 23 and Romanza Op. 24 in viola transcriptions, and Marco Anzoletti, violin professor at the Milan Conservatory, with his Seven Compositions drawn from autograph manuscripts.
Federica Cardinali and Lisa Redorici perform.
All works on this disc are world premiere recordings.
Anzoletti's Seven Compositions survive only in manuscript at the Trento Municipal Library, and Pasi's viola transcription of Pratella's Romanza was rediscovered in the Pratella Collection at the Trisi Library in Lugo. The release suits programmers and cataloguers focused on Italian chamber repertoire outside the operatic mainstream.
