opis
Venice could justifiably be called a città della musica, if one thinks of the many musicians who worked in the 16th and 17th centuries in the ecclesiastical and secular institutions, in the hospitals and patrician houses of the city. Venice was the destination, or at least an indispensable stage, for all those who, in whatever form, were involved in music. And the music that was created and heard in Venice inevitably set an example for all musicians, whether from Veneto, Italy or beyond the Alps. Carlo Filago, whose works are performed here for the first time, was undoubtedly one of the most prominent musical figures in Venice in the first half of the 17th century and one of the most important organists of his time. As the first organist at St. Mark's Basilica under Kapellmeister Claudio Monteverdi, he was granted the grace of having one of the greatest musicians of the Occident as a colleague, and at the same time the misfortune of having remained in his shadow and fallen into oblivion over the centuries, despite his almost equal talent. Filago's work is like a splendid and colourful painting, which has long lain dusty in an attic, but now, rediscovered, need fear neither the light of day nor comparison with the works of the grandmasters of his time. The present CD aims to lift this hitherto hidden treasure of music history and now make.
