Per Nørgård is one of the greatest Nordic composers of all times. He has always sought out new paths and his music originates in a desire to explore the marvels of the world and the powers of music.
In the 1960s he found his own serial technique, called the Infinity Series, an endless serial tone row combining the rule-bound with the natural.
Throughout a long life, Per Nørgård has produced some of the most visionary music in the Nordic region, including eight symphonies written between 1953 and 2011.
The symphonies are now for the first time collected in a box set; from the sombre, Nordic Symphony No. 1, to the almost psychedelically Second Symphony, the intense and chaotic Symphony No. 4 and the ethereally beautiful and bright Symphony No. 8.
The box set collects 4 previously released CDs, recorded by world class orchestras. The Symphonies 1 & 8, recorded by the Vienna Philharmonic and Sakari Oramo, received a Gramophone Award for Best Contemporary Recording.
The CD box is released just a few days before Per Nørgård celebrates his 90th birthday, on 13 July 2022.
