Dhikr of the Beloved is an original composition by acclaimed Franco-Moroccan singer Aicha Redouane and Franco-Lebanese percussionist and ethnomusicologist Habib Yammine, based on a Sufi poem by Omar Ibn al-Farid (Egypt, 1181-1234), the Eulogy of Mystic Wine. Wine being, in Sufi poetry, a symbol of the eternal divine love manifest in all creation. A spiritually uplifting work, a musical journey wherein vocal expression and lyricism reveal new freedoms whilst upholding the tradition of the Arabic maqam musical form. Qanun, oud and nay complete the instrumentation.
