Compared to other musical genres in Yemen, the songs from Aden have a very short tradition. The style emerged in the first half of the 20th century. It combines a wide variety of cultural influences from the Arab cultural area with suggestions from African and Indian cultures. Mohammad Murshid Naji and Khalil Mohammed Khalil accompany their singing on the Ud, supported by percussion and choral singing.
