It is absolutely magnificent how Christophe Rousset is able to bring about a contemporaneity of this baroque masterpiece through historical performance practice with Les Talens Lyriques. The ensemble, which is still heard far too rarely in Germany and which the harpsichordist, music researcher and conductor founded in 1991, plays so devotedly, finely colored and naturally, it traces the always dancing gesture of the music in such a smoothly animating way that the ... historical distance between the times of the Sun King and our dissonance-tested ears of the 21st century seems to have been abolished. It is most pleasing that Rousset with his well-tempered baroque picture does not need any rushing baroque'n'roll exaggerations or even alienations. How rocking the revenge aria of Armide sounds is movingly revealed even without extreme ingredients. (Concerti, review of the performance in Nancy 2015)
