A debut couldn't be more contrasting: Liszt's abysmal Sonata in B minor is juxtaposed by the young Swiss pianist Joseph-Maurice Weder with Schumann's enchanting "Kinderszenen". A daring program, since there is no shortage of recordings of both works. Nevertheless, Weder always discovers something new in the often-heard works, supported not least by the legendary Steinway concert grand "Manfred Bürki" from 1901, whose brilliant treble provides an unearthly glow above the profound bass.
