The music on this CD has been taken from the 1411 codex found in the great library in Urbino (sec. XV). The library is perhaps the largest in Italy outside of the Vatican and forms part of the Ducal Palace of Urbino. The construction of the library was commissioned by Federico Da Montefeltro. Federico, nicknamed "the Light of Italy", is a landmark figure in the history of the Italian Renaissance for his contributions to enlightened culture. This recording exists through the desire to relive and contextualize the music of the court of Federico da Montefeltro with all music performed in the original settings of the Urbino Renaissance.
