opis
With a selection of medieval polyphonic works and Gregorian chorales, each of which revolves around the theme root Jesse, Dominique Vellard and his ensemble Gilles Binchois once again draw attention to biblical texts. The root of Jesse is a widespread motif in medieval art that illustrates an essential point in the history of salvation: the family tree of Christ is depicted in the form of a tree that grows out of the figure of Jesse, the father of King David of Israel. Jesse is shown lying and sleeping in the rule. The following branches appear as David and other kings of Israel and Judah. The conclusion and coronation is a representation of the Virgin Mary with the Child. The Son of David - a messianic title with which Jesus is often addressed in the Gospels and which plays an essential role in the Christmas story - thus includes the believer in the family tree of the people of God, so to speak, since the story of faith is understood here as an unbroken continuation of the root of Jesse. The present photograph was taken in the beautiful Eglise de Mont-Saint-Vincent in the south of Burgundy. The excellent acoustics convey the beauty and naturalness of the sound of this unique ensemble, which has been inspiring audiences for years through its artistic work
