Images brings together the piano music of George Crumb with that of two of his major influences, Claude Debussy and Béla Bartók, as well as that of one of his contemporaries, John Adams. All of these composers speak a common language - one that explores pianistic timbre in a distinctive, evocative manner. The unique sonorities of these works, particularly in combination with their descriptive titles, impart a sense of Images: some aural, some visual, and others more abstract. • Artist John Milbauer has performed across the Americas as well as in Europe and Asia. Currently recording exclusively for Fleur de Son, he has previously released solo and collaborative recordings on the Eroica, Universal, and AUR labels. Milbauer has appeared at music festivals such as the Banff Centre (Canada), Rencontres Musik Raron (Switzerland), Teatro del Lago (Chile), Chautauqua Music Festival, Sierra Summer Festival, and the Tucson Winter Chamber Music Festival and has made cameo appearances with bands such as Pink Martini and the Mills Brothers. Having won prizes from the Institute for International Education and the Hungarian Ministry of Culture, Milbauer was awarded the biennial Laird National Leader in Arts Award in 2001 and the Wolodarsky prize from the Banff Centre in 2006.
