opis
In May 31, 2009, to mark the 200th anniversary of Joseph Haydn's death, a top-class ensemble gathered at the composer's long-time place of work, the palace of the Princes Esterházy in Eisenstadt. Under the direction of Adam Fischer, founder of the Austro-Hungarian Haydn Philharmonic Orchestra based there, Annette Dasch, Thomas Quasthoff and Christoph Strehl lent their voices to the archangels and the first human couple of creation. Together with the Vienna Chamber Choir, they prepared a successful celebration for the master of Viennese classical music, which would certainly have met with his approval - after all, after completing his oratorio, he had attached great importance to distributing the work worldwide through self-publishing. The Creation had already found its way to Russia and America in the first decade of the 19th century. The libretto for The Creation was written by Gottfried Baron van Swieten, who arranged a well-paid commission for Haydn for his association of aristocratic music lovers, the "Society of Associated Cavaliers". Visitors to the first public performance were so enthusiastic about Haydn's musical realization of the text that one audience member wrote: "You could even hear the worms crawling away on earth."
