opis
Handel's extensive oeuvre continues to hold discoveries in store, such as the numerous cantatas for voice and basso continuo, which have always been overshadowed by the larger vocal works. Mostly written during his stay in Rome between 1707 and 1709, these Cantate con voce sola were intended for private musical events of his Roman patrons, where the best singers of the city were engaged. In the small scenes Handel was able to prove his musical-dramatic talent in a small setting and created, for example, the Lucrezia cantata "O numi eterni" HWV 145, a highlight of this genre. The Italian alto Sonia Prina and her musical comrades-in-arms of La Sfera Armoniosa congenially realize the musical and dramatic potential of these jewels in their recording and thus bring us closer to this Handel who is far too little known.
