Grandissima Gravita
This CD presents works by four violinists who, as was customary in the Baroque period, also composed themselves. They all referred to Arcangelo Corelli, who had developed the model of the then modern violin sonata. Stylized dances meet the improvised prelude, and the violinists create structures and melodies from nothing that surprise and inspire. All four composers were related to each other. Pisendel studied with Tartini and Vivaldi. And he had an argument with Verachini, which ended with Verachini flying from the first floor of a balcony, injuring his foot and limping ever since. Which did not prevent him from impressing Tartini with his stupendous bow technique. He in turn locked himself in to practice this himself undisturbed.
