opis
Frottola means originally as much as "assortment" or "bouquet of pleasing things", which in the figurative sense describes the most diverse set forms of secular poetry. Today it is understood as a four-part song form of the Italian Renaissance, which experienced its heyday at the northern Italian aristocratic courts between 1450 and 1530. The theme "love" was of course always in the foreground in this genre, but - unlike the often very artistically elaborated chansons of the time - the frottola in its simple form and the repetition of musical phrases and sections is more reminiscent of traditional Italian folk songs. The soprano Ulrike Hofbauer and the Modena Consort perform these folksy pieces with a four-part flute consort, lute and percussion as accompaniment in a very appealing sound, and with their recording they take us directly to one of the art-loving courts of Northern Italy.
