"Blue Moon" is not only Ahmad Jamal's new album. This is his new masterpiece, irrigated by an emotion that reminds us of his greatest hours, those of "Chess" and "Impulse!" "Blue Moon" is composed of three majestic original compositions ("Autumn Rain", "I Remember Italy", "Morning Mist"), brilliant readings of American myths, the black film ("Laura"), Broadway ("Invitation", "This Is The Life"), the popular song ("Gypsy"), the great history of jazz of course ("Woody'n You"), and this "Blue Moon" with the overwhelming intensity and which is alone a summary of the new world, since it was sung by Bill Monroe, Elvis Presley, and Mel Tormé - to name a few? Each of the nine tracks that make up "Blue Moon" is a homage to the great outdoors, a reinvention of the swing, a pretext for melodic vertigo, a call to breathtaking rhythmic syncopations. Surrounded by three outstanding goalkeepers, Ahmad Jamal is at the top of his game; Formerly a virtuoso pianist of a genre named jazz, he is now the chief apostle of American classical music.
