opis
However much the operatic legacy of Antonín Dvořák (1841-1904) is less balanced than other genres of his work, we can with a clear conscience at least describe his three operas - Jakobín, Čerta a Káča and Rusalka - as exceptionally life-like works, popularly performed and spontaneously accepted by listeners. Especially Rusalka, written in 1900, a lyrical fairy-tale work based on the most valuable text that Dvořák ever used (Jaroslav Kvapil), a story full of compassion for the unfortunate protagonist and the erring human-prince, rightfully occupies the position of the most popular among Czech and foreign audiences, and next to Smetana's Sold Brides, the most frequently performed Czech opera.
The digital recording staged by Václav Neumann and with Gabriela Beňačková in the title role guarantees the highest artistic quality. In connection with Dvořák's inimitably flamboyant invention, this opera ensemble represents the materialization of one of the most valuable fruits of the spirit in the entire Czech musical history.
