Beschreibung
This is perhaps in these Fantasias for viols Purcell's music is revealed in its most intimate expression. A real peak of polyphony, which only the 'Musical Offering' and the 'Art of Fugue' by JS Bach deserve to be compared. This whole incredible thing, is the work of a young man of 21 years, on the edge of his only too brief but meteoric career. Sit Fast is incomparable in this music: all muted colors and arranged with admirable subtlety.
