opis
Karl Czerny, already a brilliant pianist at the age of ten, studied with Hummel, Clementi and Salieri; above all, however, he was one of Ludwig van Beethoven's preferred pupils. His piano school Die Kunst der Geläufigkeit (The art of fluency) became a horror for future generations of learners, for in systematic exercises the work showed them the stony path to perfect piano playing. Although Czerny was able to conquer an eternal place for himself in the parnassus of piano teachers with this work, he did not appear in a special way as a piano virtuoso - despite Beethoven's highly esteemed pianistic abilities. •
Czerny taught the young Franz Liszt, who later dedicated his Études d'exécution transcendante to him. Although Czerny's collection of etudes is still oriented towards the ideals of musical classicism, the art of dexterity opens the way to the great Romantic piano music of the 19th century: for many of the technical problems faced by the interpreter, especially of Franz Liszt's piano works, there are excellent preparatory exercises
