Maria Callas ("don't talk about her, she started with better means") but belonged to the artists who opened up new ways of singing. Her path led into the past - and created a simultaneity with the present. She has given back to the romantic bel canto opera, whose ornamental singing is trivialized to the freestyle of chirping coloratura sopranos, the rank of a dramatic art of high altitude.
