Bizet: Carmen; Bregenz Festival, 2017

The production of Bizet's Carmen has just delighted 200,000 visitors to this year's Bregenz Festival, and you can now bring the opera experience home to you on DVD/Blu-ray!
Georges Bizet's rousing music with its Spanish-like sounds conquered the world: Carmen's Habanera and Seguidilla are in everyone's ears, as is Escamillo's Couplet. British artist Es Devlin designed the stage set in Lake Constance for the French composer's most successful opera. Pop stars such as Adele, U2, Take That, Pet Shop Boys and Kanye West have performed in her sets. Together with director Kasper Holten, artistic director of the Royal Opera House in London, she has already worked at the opera houses in Helsinki and Copenhagen, the Theater an der Wien and the Royal Opera House Covent Garden. For the Danish director, this "opera about fate and obsession" is about "two people who are treated as outsiders, whose paths cross and who cling to each other in a passionate but unhealthy relationship."
The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Paolo Carignani and the outstanding ensemble of soloists led by Gaëlle Arquez, Daniel Johansson and Scott Hendricks offer an opera evening in a class of its own.
