Giacomo Carissimi (1605-1674) is one of the most influential figures in Roman musical life in the 17th century. Highly esteemed by his contemporaries, his works remained under lock and key even after his death and could not even be copied under penalty of excommunication. Jean Tubéry and the Ensemble La Fenice present us with a dramatic motet, a secular cantata and a mass on this CD a more differentiated picture of the composer.
