The sheer scale (13 arias, three duets and a final tercet) and colourful orchestration make the Cantata Cor fedele HWV 96, first performed in 1707 in the palazzo of his Roman patron, the wealthy Marchese Francesco Maria Ruspoli, a veritable mini-opera characterised by both sophistication and lightness. The recording with Roberta Invernizzi, Yetzabel Arias Fernandez and Romina Basso may be considered the undisputed reference recording of this enchanting work.
