First performed in 1876, the opera Dimitri is without doubt the most important opera by Victorin Joncières. Although the spectacular monumentality of the work ties in with the Grand Opéra Meyerbeers, it also takes up developments since Gounod and especially Wagner. Hervé Niquet and his Belgian powers make this masterpiece of French Wagnerism a real opera experience.
