Only few compositions by Firminus Caron (ca. 1440 - ca. 1475) have survived the times. Almost all of his surviving compositions can be found on the three CDs at hand. Together with Ockeghem and Busnois he is named by Tinctoris as one of the leading composers of his time. Indeed, the numerous sources and the wide distribution of his works speak for this assessment. All the more surprising in this context is the lack of any biographical details about him. With the five surviving masses and a selection of his chansons, the ensemble "The Sound and the Fury" presents here an important contemporary of the great Ockeghem, who deserves to be just as well known.
