Speak about François Couperin: there will maybe be not much to say. Historians have efficiently retraced his life story, or the little that is known about it. If his portrait, elusive due to the scarcity of documents, has been sufficiently drawn up, his biography remains patchy. Who is Couperin, besides his music? A rather vague ghost whereas his music is evidently one of the most characterised. His music must be played, must exist. It is pointless to try to describe it any further: it has to sound, and maybe we will understand something important whilst bringing it to life. These words of the performer say everything and bring us back to basics: the pleasure of listening to music, the joy of (re)discovering a pillar of the French keyboard repertoire. We will then understand the success of the first volume released in February 2009.
