If we had just held on for one more year, trombonist Ruswell Rudd said of NYAQ and the Jazz Composers Guild, "things could have turned out very differently. Things were about to turn around, and in a good way.
There was a change in the perception of the music that was happening. People were starting to look at it as art. Music left the bars and coffee houses and entered the museums and concert halls. But the network lasted long enough to inspire musicians to organizer to inspire themselves to organize. The network laid the foundation for similar organizations here in America and in Europe - what happened in Holland is a good example. We were just a little ahead of the curve." • (Bill Shoemaker)
