The Grandes Etudes Op. 125 from 1833 were Hummel's last significant piano work and practically conclude the composer's compositional output. In contrast to his early piano works, Hummel was more interested in the exquisiteness, colour and expressivity of the sound than in the pure display of technical skill. The two historical fortepianos from the collection of the pianist John Khouri impressively reproduce the tonal colours intended by Hummel.
