It was in Rio de Janeiro in 1817, that Neukomm composed this monumental mass intended to salute King João VI's accession to the throne of Portugal and Brazil at the grand ceremony of acclamation that was to take place a year later. However, the work was suppressed for murky political reasons, and since then the manuscript has slumbered among the 2,000 or so works bequeathed to France by its composer. Following the Requiem & Funeral Procession [K617210], this live recording continues Jean Claude Malgoire's systematic exploration of an unjustly forgotten composer.
