Musical life in Europe from about 1400 to 1550 was shaped by five generations of musicians from a clearly defined region known as "Franco-Flemish". Picardy, located in the south of this region, offered a fertile ground for talented singers and composers. With five composers of different generations and different ranks, this programme of religious music gives us a fairly comprehensive picture of what the musical life of one of the most productive provinces of France in this field might have looked like in the 16th century.
