During his lifetime Kusser was enthusiastically celebrated by colleagues and critics alike. The "Orpheus from Pressburg" held the most important positions in his career, namely that of court composer in Stuttgart and director of the famous Hamburg Opera on Gänsemarkt (where he was Reinhard Keiser's predecessor). He also spent six years in Paris, and his orchestral suites breathe the French style of the time. - Episode 1 of this complete recording was released on HCD 32337.
