It was Louis Ferdinand Hérold's last and at the same time most successful opera: Le Pré aux clercs, which was premiered at the Komische Oper in Paris in 1832. Only a few weeks after this groundbreaking premiere, the composer died of tuberculosis. The triumph of this opera is documented by more than 1000 performances until 1871, before it fell into oblivion. Now the opera is released by EDICIONES SINGULARES with the Gulbenkian Orchestra & Choir under the direction of Paul McCreesh.
