“The world had one of the greatest violinists in the person of David Oistrakh,” wrote the prominent conductor Eugene Ormandy. Oistrakh’s fellow musicians spoke about him with much reverence and admiration. According to Shostakovich, Oistrakh “has made up a whole era of Soviet performing art.” Melodiya presents one of Oistrakh’s best recordings – the Brahms’s violin concerto. It was recorded in 1952 with the All-Union Radio Big Symphony Orchestra led by the venerable conductor and Mr. Oistrakh’s friend Kirill Kondrashin.
